The Project

After purchasing an existing hair salon, our clients set out to transform the space into a modern, upmarket barbershop with a strong, industrial look. Their vision was bold and distinctive, requiring a complete interior rebuild to bring it to life.

The Process

We began by stripping the premises back to its outer brick walls before reconstructing the interior to the client’s specifications, with careful attention to both functionality and visual impact.

The custom fit-out included unique cabinetry, built off-site and inspired by industrial tool drawers, reinforcing the contemporary look while providing practical storage for a high-traffic workspace. The bathroom and toilet areas were completely reconfigured. To meet Council regulations, we installed two separate drainage systems: one specifically designed to manage wastewater containing hair product chemicals, and the other a standard system for general amenities.

A dedicated laundry space was incorporated, complete with washing machine and dryer facilities. Bifold doors enhanced the shopfront presence, while custom signwriting completed the transformation.

The project presented several logistical challenges. With solid block walls on either side, there was no opportunity to expand or alter the building footprint, requiring thoughtful design to maximise every square metre. Electrical upgrades were also necessary, impacting neighbouring retail tenancies. Through proactive communication and close coordination with other shop owners and the landlord, we ensured the work progressed smoothly and with minimal disruption.

The Outcome

The completed Nexus Barbershop is a striking, high-end space that perfectly reflects the owners’ vision. It is a professional, welcoming environment that clients enjoy visiting and the team is proud to work in. At Peter Dyer Builders, we are thrilled with the building’s transformation which demonstrates the power of thoughtful design and expert execution.
